Forget the bright lights and Hollywood glitter of the Baftas, Derry company Airporter outshone even the brightest stars after cleaning up at the north’s version of the transport Oscars at the weekend. Family-owned firm Airporter scooped top prize of ‘Coach Operator of the Year’ at the Federation of Passenger Transport’s Awards Ceremony in the Galgorm Manor Hotel in Ballymena on Saturday 20th February 2010.
Like the Hollywood Oscars there was a glittering red carpet reception, champagne toasts, glamour and glitz as over 200 members of the Federation of Passenger Transport gathered to honour the very best in Northern Ireland’s transport industry. And Airporter was proudly waving the flag for the northwest as they picked up their awards.
“Our staff, from the girls at reception to the drivers themselves, make up the Airporter family and this award is recognition for all their hard work and dedication to this company. For a family business to win against such excellent companies like Translink is exceptional, we are very, very proud.” said Airporter Director Niall McKeever
For the second year running, Airporter also won the top accolade for Innovative Excellence in Transport
“Innovation is second nature to Airporter,” said the judges. “Just about everything they have done since they first started has been innovative but that doesn’t stop them constantly looking for new and better services to offer their clients”
“Last year they won it for their highly successful Pick and Mix operation giving passengers greater flexibility in the use of their services. This year they win it for introducing free Wi-Fi on all their vehicles, the first operator in Northern Ireland to do so.”
Heaping praise on Airporter, the judges noted that the company weathered the recession storm by staying totally in tune with their customers.
“Airporter had seen a significant rise in its passenger numbers despite the effects of the recession which could have been expected to hit them harder than most because of the market they serve.
“They have achieved this by thoroughly understanding their market and their customers needs, by imaginative marketing, innovative services and features and a brand new fleet.”
Airporter is the only direct public transport service connecting the Belfast Airports with Derry and the North West.
This innovative company strives to provide the ultimate experience in customer service and product delivery within the public transport sector.
They provide access to FREE Wi-Fi on all services and have now introduced a state of the art reservation / back office system which will totally transform the company and airport transfers in Northern Ireland.
